The boat is being hauled out to the lake tonight. It was scheduled to go out yesterday evening but yesterday it rained and rained and rained, which was good for the garden plants and flowers but not so good for going to the lake. I'm so excited that boating season is here and look forward to just floating and fishing. Last year we caught enough fish to freeze and take to our second annual family camp out. So hopefully come July we will have extra trout to take again to our annual family camp out.We usually stay three nights and on one night we have a seafood feast. I know trout isn't seafood but it falls into the category and fits nicely with crab and oysters and anything else we buy.
This year we are going back to Fort Stevens. It's a state campground between Astoria and Seaside. My husband grew up in Astoria as a child and it holds a lot of memories which he likes to share with his grandchildren. We spent a lot of time camping at Fort Stevens when our kids were growing up so it's fun to listen to them share their stories with their children and it's a good feeling for us to know the kids had a great time when they were little camping.
Children grow up so fast and turn into adults and sometimes parents. I love my children but it seems everyone's lives are so busy we rarely get a chance to just spend time together. We get together for the holidays and birthdays but these are often a short amount of time, so I decided three years ago we should have a family camp out at the beach where we camped when our children were growing up.It's fun to watch my grown-up kids dealing with their kids, it brings back so many memories.
While walking around the campground last year we saw where people were very creative in regards to their camps. Each site has water and electricity of which we used to keep my chair charge only, but this year we are stealing ideas we saw and we will have a long table with a power strip for our coffee pot, mini refrigerator or any other ideas that makes cooking for a large crowd easier. I just never thought to expand like that.
