I have little feeling in my finger tips. I can look at the knob on the washer and yet can't pull the knob out to turn on the washer. After brain storming we found that cutting to size a piece of outdoor strips one puts on their stairs to avoid slipping when stairs are wet, creates enough sensation for my fingers to be able to pull out the knob on the washing machine.
I can't tie shoes any more. I found laces you can put in that stay tight which requires no tying, that work great. I've tried Velcro but my brain won't except them. When I used my walker I could only wear one brand of tennis shoe. If I switched to something else my feet would turn on their side or the shoe would come off. Just my quirk with PN. I've read postings of people who can't wear shoes or socks because of pain. I have to wear shoes. Shoes that are thick and sturdy to avoid pain if I ram my toes into things.
I no longer do buttons, snaps or zippers. My fingers can no longer manage this even if your watching. Everything I wear is pulled on.
I use baby wipes because I can't feel toilet paper.
I found at the store a combination shampoo, conditioner and body wash with wonderful fragrances. Plastic bottles are hard to grip especially if wet, so limiting it to one helps.
I am thankful for the Internet. My fingers can't work a pen well. I can handle and pay bills and write lists and shop and obtain things I need to assist me in contributing to my family. For me with this disability I don't want to be a burden or useless, so if I can still do most of what I used to do ,just makes me feel better. With the Internet I can even if I just two finger type.
Hand controls are a blessing for people who drive with PN. Our van has these which kept me driving when my feet could no longer feel or find the pedals. Not before I took out the fence, rammed our camp trailer and ran a 4-way stop. It thankfully was early so no one was around when I ran the 4-way all because my foot couldn't feel the brake.
I used to buy from the dollar store a pack of shower caps which I wore on my driving foot when it rained. This kept my foot from slipping off the brake. When that no longer worked we got the hand controls.
Maybe one of these tips will help.
