How stupid

I rarely use the real stove, instead sit at my table, using my equipments there. I do use it for the teapot when I want hot cocoa or tea.Since it's used so little we use it for storage.....dog biscuit box, cereal boxes..etc. Not a good idea and one now stopped.
Yesterday I wanted some tea, so I turned on the burner. Usually I leave the room and return when it begins to whistle. Yesterday I was working in the kitchen instead and was there when the empty coke box burst into flames. I had turned on the wrong burner.
Now remembering I am in a w/c you can imagine my panic. There were other boxes close to the burning box plus others boxes on the counter. My mind begins flashing with ideas.........call my hubby....but it would take him 10 minutes to arrive........so nix that, the fire could really spread by then............call the neighbor.......another time consumer.....I had hoped a miracle would occur and I miraculously would stand and handle this.......but no urged occurred....so this left me in my current capacity to handle.
I shut off the burner.....threw open my cupboard with the thought of grabbing some lids to smother the flames....but my lids were way behind my stack of pots, so I grabbed a pot and began beating the flames and finally broke it up into several small flames, then fetched my broken teapot off the floor and doused the flames.
My stove top is a flat smooth glass top. . My adrenalin was high and my arm was going like a sledgehammer. How I never broke this with my pounding is a mystery to me.
My teapot was on the floor and I don't know how it got on the floor, I don't remember touching it. The handle was broken off and what water and debris wasn't floating on my stove was running down my cupboards and all over the floor. What a mess.
As I cleaned it up,wiping and mopping, I thought how lucky I was.
I wondered why I didn't I leave the room?
How did the teapot fall to the floor and break?
Why did I turn the wrong burner on?
Mostly I ask myself. How stupid can you be to store stuff on the stove? I know better then this. I knew better then this.
The stove top is cleared now.
I hope I learned my lesson.
